Franchising a Resturant’s IP

Thinking about the idea of those folks wanting to buy your Intellectual Property and franchise it out across the state, I had a few thoughts.

1) This is a wonderful idea. We need to create that 2-3″ binder like we talked about before. Inside it, you can have several neat and organized tabs with everything in sheet protectors that maybe include

  • a) Menus (Grab-n-go, soups, desserts, pies, sandwiches, salads)
  • b) Labeling
  • c) Standard Operating Procedures
  • d) Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures
  • e) Food Costs
  • f) Marketing (social strategy, video, followings, emails of clients)
  • g) Brief timeline of the history of restaurant to show growth – ‘About Us’ section
  • h) Financials – State of the Union currently listing assets of business
  • i) Equipment – what equipment does a startup restaurant franchise need?
  • j) Sourcing – Where is the best place to source each item and ingredient
  • k) Gift Bags or Boxes – How to build one?
  • l) Online Ordering procedures
  • m) Website maintenance – each location has their own page?
  • n) Staffing – Important roles and how to hire
  • o) Gift Cards or Certificates
  • p) Monitoring 86 items – each day we track and report what runs out

You could work to assemble all of this information. Each category would be a separate word document or just build one large word document. You could have a table of contents in the front that hyperlinks to each chapter. Maybe even make this into a PDF and have someone lay it out in InDesign with graphics and pictures. That would really make it look professional.

The more time and love we put into this document, the more money you can get for the franchises. It is the best of both worlds. You don’t have to actually go work at each franchise or be stressed over them. They pay you and then they can go build them out with your secrets to success document and path to a well run machine.

Hope this helps.
