See attached. 134KW on Building roof and +/- 200 on canopies. Some of those panels on the east and west side could have to be removed due to shading from the building but this layout gives options.
We need to price the building a little higher than usual to account for cranes because of height of building. We can go $3.65/watt to start on the canopies. $2.35/watt on building.

Subject: Fwd: Tree question in parking lots vs solar parking canopy
Hi guys, thought I would pass along this finding as I am working with several developers on potential solar parking canopies….some causing trees within the city to go or be relocated. Back from my commercial landscaping days, I remember that one tree had to be within 40 feet of every parking place. See the comments below. Very interesting and sounds like they’re willing to work with us.my buddy Todd, the guy I originally emailed is a good buddy of mine and old neighbor. He is now the city of Columbia Park planner. I knew he could point me in the right direction.

This is a great and timely question. I was speaking to someone recently about this very topic. Currently, our ordinance does not reference solar energy and it is something that will definitely be incorporated as we do the rewrite. Matt is partially correct that the spirit and intent of the 40’ requirement is to provide shade and cut down on heat island effect. Another result of interior tree plantings is to provide stormwater relief and provide pollutant/particulate cleaning in the air and water. Keep in mind that there is another requirement besides the 40’ requirement. Tree density must be maintained to offset impervious surface at 1 tree per 3600 sf. One could make the argument, however, that replanting trees along the perimeter (away from the panels obviously) would mitigate the interior tree density loss and still meet the spirit and intent.
We can certainly sit down and discuss this further if this becomes a possibility.
Thanks,

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The City of Columbia is rewriting its Zoning and Land Development Ordinance. The process began in 2014 when the City of Columbia and Richland County gathered extensive community input to shape long-term plans for growth. The rewrite will ensure the city’s regulations are aligned with those plans, reflect contemporary zoning best practices, and are more user-friendly.

Hey Todd, got a solar question/ favor to ask. Who would be the best person to ask about the city tree ordnance regarding one within 40 feet of each parking spot? See the attachment (page 3 really)…..if this is built, we would need to cut down trees to provide this solar canopy carport. My argument (even though you know I am a plant/tree guy) is that that ordinance is to provide shade to parking lots, we’ll this project would provide awesome shading and make clean energy. I know this idea is new to SC, but figure you would know who to ask.
Thanks man!
