WHAT IS A HEAT EXCHANGER AND HOW DOES IT EXCHANGE HEAT? A heat exchanger is often used in commercial and industrial settings to transfer (exchange) heat or thermal energy. Did you know that heat exchangers are either given a hot fluid to provide heating or a cold fluid to provide cooling?

A fluid can be either a liquid or a gas. Heat always flows from hot to cold. There must be a temperature difference for heat to flow. How is heat exchanged? Most heat exchangers for HVAC purposes use convection and conduction.

Examples of the types of heat exchangers used in HVAC units:
– Condensers
– Evaporators
– Earth coils

Heat exchangers not only assist in the cooling and heating of buildings, but also help machines and engines work more efficiently.
