Mr. Lowry,
Yes, leasing does make more sense for those making less than 50k, on social security, on disability, or a few other conditions. Other than that, I will just tell you our company makes 3x’s more money if you choose a lease.  Vision does leases, but again – I only present it for certain situations.  It’s awesome that South Carolina legislated the possibility to own your system.  Other states are not as fortunate.  However, leasing has it’s place.  You will always pay less than your neighbor!  The financial product has all the same guarantees/maintenance, yet the homeowner makes the money the leasing company would have.  That paper is very valuable to sell on the markets.  I rarely loose to a lease product.  If I do it’s because I didn’t explain it well enough.
An example of your home… if you were to lease you would save roughly 15k – 20k in 20 yrs.  To buy – you save roughly 100k according to the proposal I got back from my engineers. This investment is very perspicacious in nature, but once treated as such – is better than paying off your house, car – into your 401k, etc.  The rate of return is very high!
Also, look out west where “leasing” and “PPA’s” are plenty! …now, we can’t do PPA’s here in SC, but we can leasing.  The con to leasing is it became a real estate nightmare out west.  You can’t just walk away from your lease if you sell your home.  The transferring of leases has caused so many issues, even where a person couldn’t sell their own home without paying a ballon payment.
If you own you can take them with you…  and ownership increases your home’s sales price.  It’s a win win in comparison.  The only way I would lease, is if I fit into one of those categories above.
I can give you more perspective, but I would need to know more of why you think leasing is better?  Or your financial situation?
I’d still love to meet with you, but let me know sir…
Thanks,Steven PetersenArea Managervisionsolar.com

Thank you For your email.  As I’ve talked solar panels, and the financial benefits,  I’ve looked at the tax benefit portion of the scenario and at our stage in life, this part of the equation just doesn’t add to the end result and I’m afraid we’d be wasting your time.  I’ve heard of leasing which may be more beneficial?
Thanks and I’d appreciate your feed-back.
