Cooling Towers and Keeping them Clean

A cooling tower is a vital heat removal device for large commercial and industrial systems. They uses water to transfer heat from inside the building to outside into the atmosphere. A cooling tower operates on the principle of removing heat from water by evaporating a small portion of water that is recirculated through the unit. If you are ever looking down from a high-rise building, you might notice square units with fans on top of them on the buildings below. Did you know those are water cooling towers?

Cooling towers are essentially large boxes designed to maximize evaporation of water. At Total Comfort Solutions, we see our partners typically use cooling towers for large-scale operations such as hotels, apartment complexes, and practically every single large building around the world.

Preventive Maintenance and cleaning of cooling towers are often improperly performed or completely neglected by many facility managers. This lack of proper maintenance, including regular cleaning and disinfection, can cause major issues that can significantly reduce the lifespan, reliability, and efficiency of the equipment. The direct consequence from not conducting PM on cooling towers can result in serious financial impacts on the business and can even affect the health of those within and around the facility.
